Review
'Stree 2' is a horror comedy. The first part was set in the town of Chanderi where men were kidnapped by a spirit and that's where the second installment is also based. But this time around, it's not the men, but the modern women who are absconding. As per the early reviews, the film provides for lots of funny moments apart from the scary ones and is expected to give out a social message just like the first part. 'Stree 2' is making sure to make the most of the Independence Day holiday as it already has a whopping Rs 20 crore collection in the advance booking. Thus, the overall collection of Day 1 is expected to be even better. The film is releasing with 'Vedaa' and 'Khel Khel Mein in cinemas. 'Stree 2' is directed by Amar Kaushik and stars Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana, Abhishek Bannerjee.
The return of Stree, one of the most awaited films of the year, could also be called The Advent Of the Headless Horror. The sequel to the 2016 original comes armed with its low-hanging fruits distinctly lower this time around. Nothing like dumbing down a sharp premise — yes, yes, it is women who have the power — but it is callow men who continue to have all the fun. Six years after sleepy little Chanderi was swept up with the doings of a mysterious woman (Shraddha Kapoor) who ensnared Rajkummar Rao’s local ‘ladies tailor’ Vicky (still firmly pronounced as Bicky), another entity invades it, and starts targeting independent young women. This monster is much more malevolent than the ‘chudail’, using its severed head as a weapon, towering over the terrorised townspeople, especially ‘azaad khayalon waali auratein’. Vicky’s partners-in-crime, Bittu (Aparshakti Khurana), Jana (Abhishek Banerji), and the older-but-not-always wiser Rudra (Pankaj Tripathi), along with Mystery Woman, track it down to its lair, which looks like a cross between ‘Munjya’s dense forest and the caverns of ‘Lord Of The Rings’, and every other film set in caves, with layers of burning lava below.
Stree 2 has been receiving a lot of positive feedback from both critics and audiences. Directed by Amar Kaushik, this sequel continues the story of the haunted town of Chanderi, with Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, and Pankaj Tripathi reprising their roles.
The film is praised for its blend of humor and horror, maintaining the charm of the original while adding new elements to the Maddock Supernatural Universe. The horror sequences are effective, and the humor, particularly from Rajkummar Rao and Abhishek Banerjee, keeps the audience entertained. Shraddha Kapoor's entry and Akshay Kumar's surprising cameo have been major highlights, eliciting strong reactions from fans.
